Is the ḥadīth concerning the "seven who will be under the shade of Allāh" confined to men?
Question: A brother from the scientific Institute in Hawṭah Banū Tamīm, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, asks in his question whether the ḥadīth of "seven persons whom Allāh will shade under His shade when there will be no shade other than His" is confined to men exclusively, or that women fulfilling such acts will gain the reward mentioned in the ḥadīth?
Sheikh Abdul-‘Azīz Ibn Bāz raḥimahullāh:
The virtue mentioned in the ḥadīth is not confined to men, but rather is applicable to both men and women. A young lady who grew up worshiping Allāh (may He be Exalted) falls under this rule. The same applies to women who love each other for the Sake of Allāh: a lady who is seduced by a man of high standing and beauty but she says, ‘I fear Allāh’: a woman who gives charity out of lawful gain whose right hand does not know what the left has given: and a woman who remembers Allāh in private and her eyes shed tears. Leadership and leading congregational prayers in masājid are among the characteristics of men. It is better for a woman to offer prayer in her house as stated by authentic ḥadīths related from the Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ).
May Allāh grant us success.
