19: The prohibition of imitating the clothing of the disbelievers The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: “Whoever imitates a people is one of them.” [Reported by Abū Dāwūd (4031)] And from Ibn ʿUmar that it was said to the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ: “The People of the Book wear trousers and do not wear waist-wrappers.” So he said: “Wear trousers, and wear waist-wrappers, and differ from the People of the Book.” [Al-Ṣaḥīḥah (1245)] And from ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAmr who said: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ saw me wearing two garments dyed with safflower, and he said: “Indeed, these are from the clothing of the disbelievers, so do not wear them.” [Reported by Muslim (2077)]
