The Precious Pearl in the Rulings of Dress and Adornment
7: Tying or Braiding the Beard The Prophet ﷺ said: “O Ruwaifi‘, perhaps life will be prolonged for you after me, so inform the people: Whoever ties his beard, or wears a decorative chain, or performs istinjā’ with the bones or dung of animals, Muḥammad ﷺ is free of responsibility for him.” [Ṣaḥīḥ Abī Dāwūd 36] Explanation: The meaning of tying the beard here refers to the blameworthy practice of either: 1. Styling it in a way that imitates effeminate traits or women, or 2. Styling it with arrogance, pride, or ostentation. [Sharḥ Ibn Bāz on Kitāb At-Tawḥīd, p.100]
