Supplication During Intimacy It is reported in Sahih Al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim from Ibn สฟAbbas (may Allฤh be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allฤh ๏ทบ said: โ€œIf any one of you, when intending to approach his spouse, says: ยซุจูุงุณู’ู… ูŽุง ุฑูŽุฒูŽู‚ู’ุชูŽู†ูŽุงยป โ€˜In the name of Allฤh, O Allฤh, keep Shayแนญฤn away from us and keep Shayแนญฤn away from what You provide us,โ€™ and if Allฤh decrees that a child is conceived from this union, then Shayแนญฤn will never be able to harm that child.โ€ Explanation: The Prophet ๏ทบ encouraged making this prescribed supplication during intimacy. He mentioned that if a Muslim prays with this supplication and Allah wills conception, Shayแนญฤn will have no power to harm the child. Al-Nawawi rahimahullah commented: โ€œAl-Qฤแธi said: It is interpreted in two ways: either that Shayแนญฤn will not strike or possess the child, or that Shayแนญฤn will not attack the child at birth, unlike other children. It is not taken to mean complete protection from all harm, whisperings, or temptationsโ€”this is Al-Qฤแธiโ€™s explanation.โ€ [Sharh An-Nawawi โ€˜ala Muslim, 10/5] Benefit: The Permanent Committee for Islamic Research and Iftaโ€™ stated that the supplication is prescribed for the man, and if the woman supplicates in this manner, it is permissible, since the default ruling is non-exclusivity.
