The Fitnah of the Markets A student of knowledge should avoid entering markets that are crowded with women, except at times when women are seldom present, and he should not prolong his stay. As narrated in Sahih Muslim, Salmān Al-Fārisi (may Allāh be pleased with him) said: β€œDo not be the first to enter the market, nor the last to leave it, for it is the battlefield of Shayṭān, and here he raises his banner.” Al-QurαΉubi (may Allāh have mercy on him), after mentioning the αΈ₯adΔ«ths concerning the market, commented: β€œThese αΈ₯adΔ«ths indicate the dislike of entering markets, especially in our times when men intermingle freely with women.” [Al-Jāmiβ€˜ li-AαΈ₯kām Al-Qur'ān, 13/16]
