𝗠𝗲𝗻'𝘀 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀 (61)

The Fitnah of the Markets A student of knowledge should avoid entering markets that are crowded with women, except at times when women are seldom present, and he should not prolong his stay. As narrated in Sahih Muslim, Salmān Al-Fārisi (may Allāh be pleased with him) said: “Do not be the first to enter the market, nor the last to leave it, for it is the battlefield of Shayṭān, and here he raises his banner.” Al-Qurṭubi (may Allāh have mercy on him), after mentioning the ḥadīths concerning the market, commented: “These ḥadīths indicate the dislike of entering markets, especially in our times when men intermingle freely with women.” [Al-Jāmi‘ li-Aḥkām Al-Qur'ān, 13/16]
