Composure, Self-Control & Preservation of Dignity Sheikh Abu Mashkoor hafidahullah mentioned: "The wise would conceal their sudden circumstances and suppress whatever sorrow, fear, or anxiety befell them—not from an inability to speak, but from a capacity for self-control and the preservation of dignity. Thus, in their biographies one reads that a certain man was threatened, or lived for a period in fear; yet trials did not hinder him from his work. Rather, he carried on with his affairs as though nothing had touched him—calm, steady-hearted, and composed. This was among the clear distinctions between a man and others: restrained patience, guarded endurance, and pain that was never put on display. Then times changed and conditions deteriorated. Many men came to find it unbearable to conceal what afflicted them. They broadcast their worries, expose their states, and turn their sorrows into public news—especially in the age of “status updates” and instant messages.
