The Prophet ﷺ said, as narrated by Abū Mūsā Al-Ashʿarī (may Allāh be pleased with him): ((أيُّما رجلٍ كانت له جاريةٌ فأدَّبها فأحسن تعليمها، وأعتقها وتزوجها، فله أجران، وأيُّما عبدٍ أدَّى حقَّ الله وحقَّ مواليه فله أجران)) "Any man who has a female slave and educates her well, trains her properly, frees her, and marries her, will have two rewards. Likewise, any servant who fulfills the rights of Allah and his master will have two rewards." [Bukhārī 5083; Muslim 154] Point of evidence: Marriage is not merely mubāḥ; it carries reward. The two rewards mentioned—فله أجْرانِ—refer to one for educating and freeing her, and one for marrying her. Shaykh Albānī رحمه الله explained this with the example of the Prophet ﷺ himself, saying: "This is what the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ did with Ṣafiyyah. It is well-known that she was originally a Jewish woman from Khaybar. When Khaybar was conquered and much war booty came into the Prophet’s ﷺ possession, Ṣafiyyah fell into the share of Dihyah Al-Kalbi. A man informed the Prophet ﷺ that Ṣafiyyah was suitable only for him. The Prophet ﷺ sent someone to Dihyah and purchased her from him for seven slave girls. He then freed her, making her manumission her Mahr, and married her. This action of the Prophet ﷺ demonstrates the reward mentioned in the hadith: a man who has a female slave, frees her, and marries her earns two rewards." [https://alathar.net/home/esound/index.php?op=codevi&coid=258299] This example illustrates that marriage—whether monogamous or polygynous—is an act of worship that carries immense reward and should not be arbitrarily restricted. ▪️ POINT 9 In Jannah, men will experience polygamous marriages, as every man who enters will be married to at least two women from the Hoor al-Ayn, as narrated in the ḥadīth of Abū Saʿīd in Muslim (188). This highlights the excellence of polygyny, since the inhabitants of Jannah will enjoy the best of everything. Indeed, the more wives a man has in Jannah, the greater his enjoyment and bliss. This is exemplified by the martyrs, who are blessed with seventy-two wives from the Hoor al-‘Ayn. Similarly, if a man is married to four wives in this Dunya and they all enter Jannah with him, he will have a minimum of six wives altogether (the two from Hoor al-Ayn plus his four worldly wives), Insha’Allah. Final Note: The Prophet ﷺ married women for various reasons, including physical desire. Excluding this as one of these reasons—as Abdurrahman Hasan did in his discussion—is incorrect due to the following reasons: The Prophet ﷺ said: ((عليكم بالأبكارِ، فإنهنَّ أنتقُ أرحامًا، وأعذبُ أفواهًا، وأقلُّ خَبًّا، و أرضى باليسيرِ)) "Marry virgins, for their wombs are more fertile, their speech is sweeter, they are less cunning, and they are content with little." [Authenticated by Sh. Al-Albani in Sahih Al-Jami‘] Also, Jābir May Allāh be pleased with said: "I met the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ, and he asked me: ‘Have you married?’ I said: ‘Yes.’ He asked: ‘A virgin or a previously married woman?’ I said: ‘A previously married woman.’ He said: ‘Why not a virgin, so you can play with her and she with you?’ I said: ‘O Messenger of Allāh, I have sisters, and I feared it would create problems between them and me.’ He said: ‘Then that is fine. A woman is married for her religion, her wealth, and her beauty, so choose one with religion; may your hands be blessed.’" [Bukhari 5247 & Muslim 715] He ﷺ also said: ((وفي بضع أحدكم صدقة)) "Even the intimate act with your wife is considered a charity." [Muslim 1006] And regarding increasing the ummah: ((فإني مكاثر بكم الأمم)) The Prophet ﷺ took means to have children—by marrying multiple women and being intimate with them—but ultimately, the results are under Allāh’s control; if Allāh wills it, it will happen, and if not, it will not. Also, men naturally desire women, as Allāh said: {زين للناس حب الشهوات من النساء والبنين والقناطير المقنطره...} "Beautified for men is the love of things they covet; women, children, much of gold and silver (wealth)..." [Sūrah Āli-ʿImrān: 15]
