Whoever turns away from my Sunnah is not from me." [Bukhari & Muslim] Point of Evidence: The Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ includes marrying WOMEN. Reflect on the advice of Ibn ʿAbbās to Saʿīd ibn Jubayr [https://t.me/madrasatuna/2988]. Similarly, the four rightly guided Caliphs—who are the best of this Ummah after the Prophet ﷺ—all practiced polygyny. ▪️POINT 3 Narrated Ma’qil ibn Yasār May Allāh be pleased with him: "A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, “I have found a woman of rank and beauty, but she does not bear children. Should I marry her?” The Prophet ﷺ replied, “No.” He came again, and the Prophet again prohibited him. On the third attempt, the Prophet ﷺ said: "Marry women who are loving and fertile, for I shall outnumber the peoples by you." [Sunan Abī Dāwūd, 2050, graded Hasan by Shaykh Albānī] Point of Evidence: The Prophet ﷺ encourages Muslims to marry women who can bear many children. If the goal—having many offspring—is desirable, then the means to achieve it (such as sexual relations and polygyny) is also desirable. Note: In our time, plural marriage is the only lawful way for men to maximise their potential for procreation. This ambition was also shared by previous Prophets, as Allāh ﷻ says: {وَلَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا رُسُلࣰا مِّن قَبۡلِكَ وَجَعَلۡنَا لَهُمۡ أَزۡوَ ٰجࣰا وَذُرِّیَّةࣰ} "We sent messengers before you and gave them wives and offspring." [Sūrah Ar-Raʿd: 38] Sulaymān peace be upon him exemplified this ambition when he said: "Tonight I will go around (have sexual relations with) one hundred women—my wives—each of whom will bear a male child who will fight in Allāh's Cause." [Bukhārī 5242] This aspiration of Sulaymān was not limited to his time. Allāh commands the believers: {وَأَعِدُّوا۟ لَهُم مَّا ٱسۡتَطَعۡتُم مِّن قُوَّةࣲ} "Prepare against them what you can of force." [Sūrah Al-Anfāl: 60] While the Prophet ﷺ interpreted this quwwah (force) as archery, it is clear that a bow and arrow cannot launch themselves! ▪️POINT 4 The Prophet ﷺ said: ((مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ الْبَاءَةَ فَلْيَتَزَوَّجْ، فَإِنَّهُ أَغَضُّ لِلْبَصَرِ وَأَحْصَنُ لِلْفَرْجِ، وَمَنْ لَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ فَعَلَيْهِ بِالصَّوْمِ، فَإِنَّهُ لَهُ وِجَاءٌ ‏)). “He who can afford to marry should marry, because it will help him refrain from looking at other women, and save his private parts from committing illegal sexual relation; and he who cannot afford to marry is advised to fast, as fasting will diminish his sexual power.” [Bukhari & Muslim] Point of evidence: Having multiple wives helps a man maintain modesty and protect his chastity to a greater degree, particularly since a man with only one wife may face significant challenges during her menstrual periods or postpartum bleeding. ▪️ POINT 5 How can polygyny be considered merely mubāḥ (permissible) when it encompasses numerous acts of worship and provides many benefits, all of which are part and parcel of a valid Islamic marriage?! These include: -> Helping one lower their gaze and guard their chastity ((فإنه أغض للبصر وأحصن للفرج)) -> Distancing oneself from immorality to a greater degree, as Allāh said: {ولا تقربوا الزنا} -> Fulfilling the rights of women, which include providing shelter, food, clothing, and sexual satisfaction—all of which are considered forms of charity.
