Al-Awzā‘ī (رحمه الله) said:
كُنَّا نَضحَكُ وَنَمزَحُ، فَلَمَّا صِرْنَا يُقْتَدَى بِنَا، خَشِيْتُ أَنْ لاَ يَسَعَنَا التَّبَسُّمُ.
"We used to laugh and joke, but when people began to take us as examples, I feared that even smiling might no longer be appropriate for us.”
