𝗠𝗲𝗻'𝘀 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀 (41)

An-Najdah Courageous assistance (An-najdah) is a noble virtue and a mark of true manhood. Whoever is stripped of it is no man, even if he possesses every other outward trait of masculinity. It is defined as rushing to help—under any circumstance—even when doing so may bring harm to the one offering aid. The Arabs said: لو دُعي الكريمُ إلى حَتفِهِ لَأجاب “If the noble man were called to his own death, he would answer.” Al-Māzinī said: إذا استُنجدوا لم يسألوا من دعاهمُ... لأيّةِ حَربٍ أمِّ بأيِّ مكانِ. “When they are called upon for help, they do not ask who summoned them—nor for which battle, nor in what place.” And the Prophet ﷺ was the most courageous of all people. In the two Ṣaḥīḥs, Anas reported: “…The people of Madinah were startled by a noise, so some set out toward it. They were met by the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ returning, for he had preceded them to the source of the noise.” Reflect on Anas’s words: “They met him returning” and “he had preceded them” to realise that the quickest to respond in times of need is the most manly and courageous. ... Thus, if someone calls upon you for help—whether in a trivial matter or a grave one—do not hesitate. Only in such moments do the true qualities of men reveal themselves. Chivalrous aid is not limited to the examples mentioned. Someone dear to you may seek your help in a misfortune, and you may support him with your wealth and your influence, as it was said: أغار على حالي الزمانُ بعُسفِهِ ... ولكن ندى كفّيك في الحالِ أنجدا Time dealt harshly with me in its injustice, but the generosity of your hands came swiftly to my aid.
