BENEFIT: Consistency – A Defining Characteristic of the People of Truth

Shaykh Wahb Adh-Dhayfāni (may Allāh have mercy on him) mentioned during one of our Ḥā’iyyah class in Ḥāmi, Yemen: The Prophet ﷺ said: ((لا تزال طائفة من أمتي على الحق ظاهرين لا يضرهم من خذلهم ولا من خالفهم حتى يأتي أمر الله)). "A group from my Ummah will always remain steadfast upon the truth, manifest and unharmed by those who forsake them or oppose them, until the command of Allāh comes (i.e. The Day of Judgment)." This ḥadīth is Mutawātir (mass-transmitted), leaving no doubt about its authenticity. Key Lessons from the Ḥadīth: 1⃣ Victory is tied to the truth. True success comes from holding firmly to the truth. The more a person clings to it, the more victory he is granted. 2⃣ The meaning of "لا تزال" (they will never cease). The Shaykh asked: “What do we learn from the phrase ‘لا تزال’?” Student: “Consistency/continuity.” Shaykh: “Correct. The people of truth have always existed since the time of the Prophet ﷺ and will continue until the Day of Judgment. This ongoing presence is a sign by which we recognise those upon the truth.” He then posed a question: Did Jamāʿah At-Tablīgh exist during the Prophet’s ﷺ time? Students: No. Did Ikhwān Al-Muslimūn exist then? Students: No. Likewise, neither the Jahmiyyah, Kullābiyyah, Ashāʿirah, Māturīdiyyah, nor the Ṣūfiyyah were present at that time. These groups appeared only after the Prophet’s ﷺ era. Thus, they cannot be included in this ḥadīth. Who does the ḥadīth apply to? It applies exclusively to Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamāʿah – Ahlul-Ḥadīth, the Salafiyyūn – for they alone remain upon the unchanged path of the Prophet ﷺ and his Companions. 3⃣ Enemies of the truth. This ḥadīth also shows that failing to support the truth makes one an enemy of it. These enemies are of two kinds: 1. External enemies – those who openly oppose the truth. 2. Internal enemies – those who abandon or forsake it. The latter are even more dangerous. Yet, by the mercy of Allāh, neither group will harm the people of truth.
