#LIFE_LESSONS Overlooking Minor Faults It is narrated in Sahih Muslim (1469) from Abu Hurayrah (may Allāh be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: ((لَا يَفْرَكْ مُؤْمِنٌ مُؤْمِنَةً إِنْ كَرِهَ مِنْهَا خُلُقًا رَضِيَ مِنْهَا آخَرَ)). "A believing man should not hate a believing woman; if he dislikes one of her traits, he will be pleased with another." Explanation: This ḥadīth points to the importance of overlooking certain mistakes that may come from children—not out of negligence, but because proper upbringing requires gradual steps, according to age, level of understanding, and the right time for correction. Whoever seeks to discipline a child harshly and all at once will drive him away and make him resistant to his educator. It is also unwise to compare a child to his peers of the same age or reproach him by saying that so-and-so has surpassed him in some matter. For when a child feels unable to catch up, envy and resentment take root in his heart toward the one who excelled over him—even if that person is his sibling. He may even internalise a sense of inferiority for no reason other than seeing others surpass him. Ibn Al-Wardi (may Allāh have mercy on him) said: وتغافل عن أمورٍ إنهُ *** لم يفزْ بالحمدِ إلا مَن غفلْ "Overlook some matters, for none attains praise except he who overlooks."
