#LIFE_LESSONS When Silence Speaks Louder Than Words Allāh, the Exalted, says: ﴿وَإِذَا خَاطَبَهُمُ الْجَاهِلُونَ قَالُوا سَلَامًا﴾ "And when the ignorant address them [harshly], they say [words of] peace." [Al-Furqān: 63] If an ignorant person disputes with you using falsehood, do not aid him against himself by responding; rather, maintain your silence—without contempt for him nor arrogance over him. For silence, when placed in its proper context, breaks the sharpness of his argument and casts doubt upon his reasoning. When he observes your composure and calmness, he will become convinced—before anyone else—of the weakness of his claim and the fragility of his logic. The Prophet ﷺ said: ((أنا زعيمٌ ببيتٍ في ربَض الجنة لمن ترك المراء وإن كان محقًّا)). "I guarantee a house in the surroundings of Paradise for the one who abandons argumentation, even if he is right."
