We say: this person is a muṭaffif – just like in the first case with the husband and wife. If the husband wants his wife to fulfill his rights completely while he diminishes hers, we call him a muṭaffif. Likewise, a father who wants his children to show him perfect obedience while he neglects their rights is a muṭaffif. We say to him: remember the saying of Allāh the Most High: { وَیۡلࣱ لِّلۡمُطَفِّفِینَ (1) ٱلَّذِینَ إِذَا ٱكۡتَالُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ یَسۡتَوۡفُونَ (2) وَإِذَا كَالُوهُمۡ أَو وَّزَنُوهُمۡ یُخۡسِرُونَ (3) } “Woe to those who give less [than due], those who, when they take a measure from people, take in full. But if they give them by measure or by weight, they cause loss.” [Sūrat al-Muṭaffifīn, 83:1-3] From Tafsīr of Sūrah Al-Muṭaffifīn Translated by Abu Juwayriyah Nūruddīn ibn Sulaymān ibn Hārūn Al-Idi An-Nījīrīy - may Allaah grant him success.
