Narrated by Abū Kabshah al-Anmārī: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "There are three matters upon which I swear, and I shall relate to you a narration—so preserve it. The wealth of a servant is never diminished by giving charity; no servant suffers an injustice and then patiently endures it except that Allah increases him in honour; and no servant opens the door of begging except that Allah opens upon him the door of poverty (or words to that effect). And I shall relate to you a narration—so preserve it: The world is [divided] for four types of people: 1) A servant whom Allah has granted wealth and knowledge—he fears his Lord regarding it, maintains ties of kinship through it, and recognises the rights of Allah in it—this one is in the best of stations. 2) A servant whom Allah has granted knowledge but not wealth—he is sincere in intention and says, 'If I had wealth, I would act as so-and-so acts.' Thus, he is rewarded according to his intention, and their reward is the same. 3) A servant whom Allah has granted wealth but not knowledge—he squanders his wealth without knowledge, does not fear his Lord in it, does not maintain ties of kinship through it, and does not recognize the rights of Allah in it—this one is in the worst of stations. 4) And a servant whom Allah has granted neither wealth nor knowledge—he says, 'If I had wealth, I would act as so-and-so acts'—thus, he is held accountable according to his intention, and their sin is the same."
