It was also narrated from Abū Hurayrah (may Allāh be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said:

((إن الله يباهي بأهل عرفات ملائكة السماء فيقول انظروا إلى عبادي هؤلاء جاءوني شعثا غبرا)) "Indeed, Allāh boasts about the people of ’Arafāt to the angels of the heavens, saying: 'Look at My servants — they have come to Me dishevelled and dusty.'" [Narrated by Aḥmad, and also authenticated in Aṣ-Ṣaḥīḥ Al-Musnad] 11. The Prophet ﷺ said regarding this day: "Ḥajj is ’Arafah": This narration is from ’Abdurraḥmān ibn Ya’mar Ad-Dīlī (may Allāh be pleased with him), recorded by Abū Dāwūd, and it is authenticated in Aṣ-Ṣaḥīḥ Al-Musnad. This statement reflects the immense virtue of the Day of ’Arafah above the other days of Ḥajj. Imām An-Nawawī, in his commentary on Muslim regarding the ḥadīth "Religion is sincere advice", said: «ﺃﻱ ﻋﻤﺎﺩﻩ ﻭﻣﻌﻈﻤﻪ ﻋﺮﻓﺔ» "That is to say, its pillar and most significant aspect is ’Arafah." And the author of Mir’āt Al-Mafātīḥ stated: «ﺃﻱ ﻣﻌﻈﻢ اﻟﺤﺞ ﺃﻭ ﻣﻼﻛﻪ اﻟﻮﻗﻮﻑ ﺑﻌﺮﻓﺔ ﻟﻔﻮﺕ اﻟﺤﺞ ﺑﻔﻮاﺗﻪ» "The core or essence of Ḥajj is standing at ’Arafah, as missing it invalidates the pilgrimage." This great virtue applies both to the day and the standing (wuqūf) at ’Arafah. Ibn Rushd said: »أجمعوا على أنه ركن من أركان الحج، وأن من فاته فعليه حج قابل» "There is consensus that it is a pillar of Ḥajj, and that whoever misses it must perform Ḥajj the following year." [Bidāyat Al-Mujtahid (1/481)] Ibn Qudāmah Al-Maqdisī wrote: »والوقوف ركن لا يتم الحج إلا به إجماعاً» "Standing (at ’Arafah) is a pillar without which Ḥajj is not valid, by consensus." [Al-Mughnī (3/432)] 12. The restricted (specific) takbīr begins from the Fajr of the Day of ’Arafah until the ’Aṣr of the last day of Tashrīq, according to the soundest opinion: This view is authentically attributed to ’Alī, Ibn Mas’ūd, and Ibn ’Abbās (may Allāh be pleased with them all). It was also favoured by Shaykh Al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy on him, in Majmū’ Al-Fatāwā (24/220). This is supported by what is recorded in the Ṣaḥīḥayn from Anas (may Allāh be pleased with him), and from Ibn ’Umar in Muslim, stating that: «كانوا يوم عرفة يغدون إلى عرفة، منهم الملبي، ومنهم المكبر، ولا ينكر أحدهم على صاحبه» On the Day of ’Arafah, some people would be reciting talbiyah, and others making takbīr, and none of them objected to one another. And Allāh knows best. Compiled and summarised by Abū ’Abdillāh Amīn ibn ’Abdillāh At-Tibsī Al-Jazāʾirī — may Allāh pardon him --------- Paraphrased translation
