Additionally, it has been authentically reported from Abū Hurayrah and ’Alī (may Allāh be pleased with them) as a mawqūf (Companion statement), which reinforces

4. It is a day festival for Muslims: ’Uqbah ibn ’Āmir (may Allāh be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said:
((ﻳﻮﻡ ﻋﺮﻓﺔ ﻭﻳﻮﻡ اﻟﻨﺤﺮ ﻭﺃﻳﺎﻡ اﻟﺘﺸﺮﻳﻖ ﻋﻴﺪﻧﺎ ﺃﻫﻞ اﻹﺳﻼﻡ، ﻭﻫﻲ ﺃﻳﺎﻡ ﺃﻛﻞ ﻭﺷﺮﺏ))
"The Day of ’Arafah, the Day of Sacrifice, and the Days of Tashrīq are our festivals, O people of Islam. They are days of eating and drinking." [Reported by Abū Dāwūd and authenticated in Ṣaḥīḥ Al-Musnad by Imām Al-Wādiʿī]
5. Fasting on this day expiates the minor sins of two years: the preceding and the following one (not major sins, according to the stronger opinion). Abū Qatādah (may Allāh be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet ﷺ was asked about fasting on the Day of ’Arafah. He said:
((يكفر السنة الماضية والباقية))
"It expiates the sins of the previous year and the coming year." [Reported by Muslim]
Additional narrations support this, though some chains include weak narrators. Al-Albānī graded several of these narrations as ḥasan in Ṣaḥīḥ At-Targhīb wa At-Tarhīb.
6. The best supplication is the supplication made on the Day of ’Arafah: ’Amr ibn Shu’ayb narrated from his father, from his grandfather (may Allāh be pleased with them), that the Prophet ﷺ said:
((خير الدعاء دعاء يوم عرفة وخير ما قلت أنا والنبيون من قبلي لا إله إلا الله وحده لا شريك له له الملك وله الحمد وهو على كل شيء قدير))
"The best supplication is that of the Day of ’Arafah. And the best that I and the Prophets before me have said is: 'Lā ilāha illa Allāh waḥdahu lā sharīka lah, lahu al-mulk wa lahu al-ḥamd wa huwa ʿalā kulli shayʾin qadīr.'” [Reported by At-Tirmidhī and authenticated by Al-Albānī]
7. One of the last Āyahs revealed in the Qur'ān was revealed on the Day of ’Arafah: As reported in the Ṣaḥīḥayn, particularly in Al-Bukhārī, from Ṭāriq ibn Shihāb, from ’Umar ibn Al-Khaṭṭāb (may Allāh be pleased with him), a Jewish man said to him: "O Commander of the Faithful, there is an Āyah in your Book that, had it been revealed to us Jews, we would have taken that day as a festival." He asked, "Which Āyah?" The man replied: {This day I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favor upon you, and have chosen Islam as your religion [Al-Mā'idah: 3]. ’Umar said:
«ﻗﺪ ﻋﺮﻓﻨﺎ ﺫﻟﻚ اﻟﻴﻮﻡ، ﻭاﻟﻤﻜﺎﻥ اﻟﺬﻱ ﻧﺰﻟﺖ ﻓﻴﻪ ﻋﻠﻰ اﻟﻨﺒﻲ ﷺ، ﻭﻫﻮ ﻗﺎﺋﻢ ﺑﻌﺮﻓﺔ ﻳﻮﻡ ﺟﻤﻌﺔ»
“We know the day and the place it was revealed to the Prophet ﷺ: it was while he was standing at ’Arafah, on a Friday.”
A similar narration is also reported from Ibn ʿAbbās.
8. It is the day on which the greatest number of people are freed from Hellfire: It was narrated from ’Ā'ishah (may Allāh be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said:
((ما من يوم أكثر من أن يعتق الله فيه عبدا من النار من يوم عرفة وإنه ليدنو ثم يباهي بهم الملائكة فيقول: ما أراد هؤلاء؟))
"There is no day on which Allāh frees more people from the Hellfire than the Day of ’Arafah. He draws near, then boasts about them to the angels and says: 'What do these people want?'" [Narrated by Muslim]
9. On this day, Allāh, Glorified and Exalted be He, draws near to the people standing (at ’Arafah): This is derived from the aforementioned ḥadīth of ’Ā'ishah (may Allāh be pleased with her).
10. Allāh boasts of the people of ’Arafah to His angels: Also from the previous narration of ’Ā'ishah (may Allāh be pleased with her).
Additionally, it was narrated from ’Abdullāh ibn ’Amr (may Allāh be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said:
((إن الله تعالى يباهي ملائكته عشية عرفة بأهل عرفة يقول: انظروا إلى عبادي أتوني شعثا غبرا))
"Indeed, Allāh boasts to His angels, in the evening of the Day of ’Arafah, about the people of ’Arafah. He says: 'Look at My servants who have come to Me disheveled and dusty.'" [Narrated by Aḥmad, and it is authenticated in As-Ṣaḥīḥ Al-Musnad by Imām Al-Wādiʿī, may Allāh have mercy on him]
