We Die Only When Our Appointed Time Comes Christa Pike was subjected to two complete rounds of lethal injection, yet she survived and is now conscious and speaking. Whatever the circumstances surrounding her survival, this reminds us of the reality expressed in the saying of Allah: {فَإِذَا جَاۤءَ أَجَلُهُمۡ لَا یَسۡتَأۡخِرُونَ سَاعَةࣰ وَلَا یَسۡتَقۡدِمُونَ} “When their appointed time comes, they can neither delay it for an hour nor bring it forward.” [Al-Aʿrāf 7:34] Death does not occur simply because human beings intend it or because the means of death are present. A person dies only when the time Allah has appointed for them arrives. When that appointed moment comes, it cannot be delayed even for a second.
