As some of you may be aware, we acquired the current building where masjid Sahabah is currently operating on a one-year contract at an annual rent of £30,000.
We recently had a meeting with the landlord and managed to convince him to reconsider his original plan to convert the building into flats. After seeing the work we’ve done, witnessing the khayr taking place, and praying Maghrib and ‘Isha with us, he has agreed to a very long-term lease covering both the upstairs and downstairs sections. Alhamdulillah.
However, the rent for the upstairs has now been increased back to the original rate of £50,000 per year. This means the total rent for both sections is now approximately £80,000 per year, minus business rates and utility bills.
Alhamdulillah, having both sections secured on a long-term lease is a big step forward for the masjid, but it also means we now have significantly higher running costs to cover.
Many of the local community have been seeking a convenient way to contribute to the masjid.
I personally find it uncomfortable when individuals approach me to ask how to donate or attempt to hand me cash for the masjid.
For this reason I have added the account details onto the group description and whenever someone asks about bank details I refer them to the WhatsApp and telegram account. This has saved me a lot of time and hassle and has also served as a means to expose people to the dawah.
I asked Sheikh Daghash Al-Ajmi hafidhahullah about this and he said there's no issue with this.
