18. Another lesson is that a person who lacks patience in the company of a teacher and in learning will miss out on much knowledge. Knowledge requires persevera

19. Another benefit is that the main reason for achieving patience is having full knowledge and understanding of the matter one is asked to be patient about. If a person does not know the matter, its purpose, outcome, or benefit, they lack a reason for patience. This is evident in Al-Khidr’s statement:
{وكيف تصبر على ما لم تحط به خبرا}
“How can you be patient over what you do not fully know?”
20. Another lesson is the importance of caution and careful consideration before judging or acting, to fully understand the matter and its intended purpose.
21. Another benefit is to leave future matters, which depend on human action and Allah’s will, to Allah’s decree. A person should not declare they will do something in the future without saying “Insha’Allah” (if Allah wills).
22. Another lesson is that merely intending or resolving to do something is not the same as actually doing it. For example, Prophet Musa (peace be upon him) said:
{ستجدني إن شاء الله صابرا}
“You will find me, if Allah wills, patient”—he prepared himself to be patient, even though he had not yet acted.
23. Another lesson is that a teacher, when seeing it beneficial, may delay answering certain questions from the student, allowing the teacher to guide when and how the questions are addressed. This is useful when the student’s understanding is limited, or when asking certain details might distract from more important matters, exceed their comprehension, or be unrelated to the main point of study.
24. Another benefit is that it is permissible to travel by sea, provided one is not in a situation of danger or fear.
25. Another lesson is that a person who forgets something is not held accountable for it—neither toward Allah nor toward the rights of others—as reflected in the words:
{لا تؤاخذني بما نسيت}
“Do not hold me accountable for what I have forgotten.”
26. Another benefit is that a person should adopt a moderate approach in dealing with others, taking what is easy and reasonable from their conduct. One should not impose what they cannot bear or make things difficult for them, as this leads to dislike and resentment. Instead, take what is feasible to facilitate ease and cooperation.
27. Another benefit is that a companion should remain with their companion through all circumstances, offering correction and understanding rather than abandoning them, as Al-Khidr did with Prophet Musa.
28. Another lesson is that a companion’s agreement with their companion, in matters that are not forbidden, helps maintain and strengthen the bond of companionship. Conversely, a lack of agreement can lead to breaking the relationship.
29. Another lesson is that worldly rulings are generally applied based on what is apparent.
For example, Prophet Musa (peace be upon him) objected to Al-Khidr breaking the ship and killing the boy because, outwardly, these appeared wrong. Musa was naturally inclined to judge according to the apparent evidence, without recognising the hidden wisdom that required patience.
30. Another important principle is that
يُدفع الشرُّ الكبيرُ بارتكاب الشر الصغير، ويُراعى أكبرُ المصلحتين بتفويت أدناهما
“A greater evil is warded off by committing a lesser evil, and the greater of two benefits is upheld by foregoing the lesser."
For instance, killing the boy was harmful, but leaving him alive would have caused greater harm by potentially leading his parents into corruption or disbelief. Protecting their faith was a greater good than preserving the boy’s life in the immediate sense.
