Seek Pardon And Wellbeing
It was narrated from ʿĀ’ishah (raḍiyallāhu ʿanhā) that she said:
“O Messenger of Allāh, what should I say in my supplication if I reach Laylatul-Qadr?” He ﷺ replied: “Say: Allāhumma innaka ʿafuwwun tuḥibbul-ʿafwa faʿfu ʿannī — (O Allāh, You are Most Forgiving and love to forgive, so forgive me).”
Reported by Tirmidhī (8025) and graded Ṣaḥīḥ by Shaykh al-Albānī in Silsilah aṣ-Ṣaḥīḥah.

Reflection:
There is wisdom behind the Prophet ﷺ specifying this particular duʿā, so it is worth reflecting on these brief yet profound words.
The word ʿAfw (pardon and wellbeing) carries several meanings:
1⃣ Wellbeing in one’s body and limbs
2⃣ Wellbeing in one’s religion
3⃣ Pardon and forgiveness from Allāh
Wellbeing in the body refers to protection and cure from all kinds of illness.
Wellbeing in one’s religion means being granted success in performing righteous deeds.
As for Allāh’s pardon and forgiveness, it means that He overlooks a person’s sins, erases them, and does not punish him for them.
Linguistically, al-ʿAfw also carries the meaning of increase and abundance.
For example, when referring to wealth, ʿAfw means surplus or excess. Allāh ﷻ says:
{يَسْـَٔلُونَكَ مَاذَا يُنفِقُونَ قُلِ ٱلْعَفْوَ}
“They ask you [O Muḥammad ﷺ] what they should spend. Say: al-ʿAfw.”
(Sūrah al-Baqarah 2:219)
Meaning: that which remains beyond one’s essential needs.
From this perspective, Allāh’s ʿAfw can also mean that He grants a person what he asks for — and even more.
So we should increase in repeating this duʿā without becoming negligent, especially during these blessed nights:
اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي
“O Allāh, You are the One who pardons and loves to pardon, so pardon me.”
