The Futility of Complaining
In the old days, the Arabs disliked complaints that brought about no benefit.
A man once remarked, “How cold it is today!”
Al-Mu‘afā ibn ‘Imrān said to him, “Did your words make you any warmer?...Silence would have served you better.”
Indeed, not every complaint brings comfort; sometimes, it reopens wounds that had nearly healed and forces the heart to relive pains and traumas that were almost forgotten.
