It is not allowed to throw eatable leftover food and drink in the garbage.

Sheikh แนขฤliแธฅ Al-Fawzฤn may Allฤh preserve him said:
โIt is not permissible to throw any food into dirty or impure places such as washrooms, because that is a waste and a mistreatment of [Allฤh's] blessing, and a lack of gratitude to Allฤh. The Prophet ๏ทบ found a date in the road and said โWere it not that I fear it being from zakฤh, I would have surely eaten it.โ Narrated by Bukhฤri in his แนขaแธฅฤซแธฅ. And he ๏ทบ ordered the one who eats to lick his fingers before washing or wiping them with a handkerchief, and he instructed that if a piece of food is dropped, it should be picked up, any dirt should be removed, and it should be eaten. This indicates that it is not permissible to throw any kind of food, dates or anything edible in dirty or impure places; rather the blessing should be honoured and preserved, because that is a means of being grateful for it, and because this blessing may come to one who is in need of it and someone who will eat it, even animals. So throwing it in the garbage is not permissible.โ

One of the lessons gained from fasting is appreciating what we have of food & drink. Most of us avoid eating & drinking for only a few hours during the day while others have to endure a lifetime of hunger & thirst. How can we then allow ourselves to waste these blessing?!
