عَتِيقٌ | عُتَقَاءُ (plural) Freed/ liberated, ancient Example sentence 1: {وَلۡیَطَّوَّفُوا۟ بِٱلۡبَیۡتِ ٱلۡعَتِیقِ} “let them perform Ṭawāf around the LIBERATED House (i.e. Ka'bah).” [Sūrah Al-Ḥajj 29] Why is it called 'THE LIBERATED HOUSE'? Because Allāh liberated it from every tyrant. (Tafsīr Aṭ-Ṭabari) NOTE: In most English translations it says, the 'ANCIENT' house. Yes, this is also another meaning for عَتِيقٌ. Why is it called 'THE ANCIENT HOUSE'? Because the Ka'bah was the first place of worship ever built on earth. It was first built by Ādam - peace be upon him -. (Tafsīr Aṭ-Ṭabari) _________________ Example sentence 2: إِنَّ لِله عِنْدَ كُلِّ فِطْرٍ عُتَقَاءَ At every breaking of the fast Allāh has people whom He frees (from the Fire). (authentic Ḥadīth Reported by Ibn Mājah on the authority of Jābir raḍhiyallāhu ‘anhu)
