سَرَابٌ [مَا يُرَى مِنْ بَعِيدٍ فِي وَاضِحَةِ النَّهَارِ] * (Noun) Mirage; an optical illusion seen from far in the clearance of the day. Sentence 1⃣: {وَٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوۤا۟ أَعۡمَـٰلُهُمۡ كَسَرَابِۭ بِقِیعَةࣲ یَحۡسَبُهُ ٱلظَّمۡـَٔانُ مَاۤءً حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا جَاۤءَهُۥ لَمۡ یَجِدۡهُ شَیۡـࣰٔا} “As for the disbelievers, their deeds are like a mirage in a desert plain. The thirsty man thinks it is water until, when he reaches it, he finds it to be nothing. ” [Sūrah An-Nūr 39] In this Āyah Allāh resembles the deeds of the disbelievers to a mirage; whoever sees them thinks that they are beneficial deeds, but they are being deceived by their outward appearance, for when they come on the day of judgement; the day when they will be in most need of good deeds, just as the thirsty man needs water, they will not find anything.” [paraphrased from Tafsīr As-Si‘dī] Sentence 2⃣: {وَسُیِّرَتِ ٱلۡجِبَالُ فَكَانَتۡ سَرَابًا} “When the mountains will vanish like a mirage.” [Sūrah An-Naba' 20] i.e. When the trumpet is blown on the Day of judgement Sentence 3⃣: هُوَ أَخْدَعُ مِنَ ٱلسَّرَابِ 'He is more deceptive than a mirage.'
