Is there a supplication for the last ten nights, especially on Laylat Al-Qadr? Sheikh Rashad Adh-Dhali'ee: It is reported in a hadith that ʿĀ’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: “O Messenger of Allah, if I know which night is Laylat Al-Qadr, what should I say?” He ﷺ said: ((اللهم إنك عفو تحب العفو فاعف عني)) “O Allah, You are Forgiving, You love forgiveness, so forgive me” This hadith has a broken chain between ʿAbdullah ibn Buraydah and ʿĀ’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her). Therefore, a person should supplicate to Allah with the many duʿās mentioned in the Qur’an and Sunnah. A person should also seek comprehensive supplications, as previously explained. Comprehensive duʿās are short phrases that encompass many meanings. The Prophet ﷺ preferred these comprehensive supplications and left aside others. It is best for a person to use the duʿās reported from the Prophet ﷺ. Whatever duʿā a person makes from themselves is not equal to the duʿās of the Prophet ﷺ. So a person should seek out the reported duʿās and supplicate with them. Examples: ((اللهم آتنا في الدنيا حسنة وفي الآخرة حسنة وقنا عذاب النار)) “O Allah, grant us good in this world, good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire” “Good in this world” includes all goodness: good provision, righteous children, beneficial knowledge, steadfastness in religion, etc. “Good in the Hereafter” is Paradise. “Protect us from the Fire” is seeking refuge from Hell. These three phrases cover all goodness of this world and the Hereafter. ((اللهم أصلح لي ديني الذي هو عصمة أمري وأصلح لي دنياي التي فيها معاشي وأصلح لي آخرتي التي فيها معادي واجعل الحياة زيادة لي في كل خير واجعل الموت راحة لي من كل شهر)) “O Allah, rectify my religion which is the safeguard of my affairs, rectify my worldly life in which is my livelihood, and rectify my Hereafter in which is my return; make my life an increase in all good, and make death a relief from all evil” This duʿā includes the rectification of religion, worldly life, and the Hereafter. Other examples from the Prophet ﷺ: ((اللهم أعني على ذكرك وشكرك وحسن عبادتك)) “O Allah, help me remember You, thank You, and worship You properly” ((اللهم إني أسألك الهدى والتقى والعفاف والغنى)) “O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and sufficiency” ((اللهم اغفر لي وارحمني وعافني واهدني وارزقني)) “O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, grant me well-being, guide me, and provide for me” These are great supplications encompassing all goodness in this world and the Hereafter. Conclusion: A person should strive to make the Prophet’s supplications during the last ten nights, especially comprehensive ones, because they cover all essential goodness and blessings.
