Advice on Whether to Travel for Umrah When the Mother Objects Due to Safety Risks

Question: Assalamu alaykum ustadh, my friend has a flight booked for umrah tomorrow but due to the current situation in the area his mum doesnt want him to go. But at the same time his dad is telling him to go. Would he be sinful for going against his mums wishes? What would you advise him to do. Jazakallahu khayr Sheikh Muhammad Al-'Ansi: وعليكم السلام ورحمة الله وبركاته If the journey truly involves risk because of the current events—may Allah remove them and protect the Muslims from their harm—and his mother is worried while his father tells him to go, he should try to reconcile with his mother. Since his father encourages him, he can ask his father to help convince the mother. If the mother agrees, then it is fine to go. But if the mother insists and prevents him, her obedience takes priority. The Prophet ﷺ was asked: “Who is most deserving of good companionship?” He said: “Your mother.” He was asked again: “Then who?” He said: “Your mother.” Again: “Then who?” He said: “Your mother.” Then: “Then who?” He said: “Your father.” So yes, he should obey his mother and not go, and Allah will make things easy for him in the coming days. Umrah is flexible and not fixed to a specific time—it is valid at any time. There is extra virtue in performing it during Ramadan, but if the journey is risky and the mother does not approve, it is better to obey her, and perhaps Allah will facilitate it for him later.
