Who is Sheikh Sa'd Al-Khathlan?

Early Life and Education: He passed all stages of his education with excellent results. He memorised the Qur’an at a young age. He then joined the College of Sharia at Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University in Riyadh. He excelled in his studies and graduated first in his class. Because of this, he was appointed as a teaching assistant in the Department of Fiqh at the college in 1410 AH. He later earned his master’s degree in 1416 AH and his PhD in 1422 AH. During his studies, he learned from several prominent scholars, including Sheikh AbdulAziz bin Baz and Sheikh Abdullah ibn Qa’ud (may Allah have mercy on them). --- His Work: Chairman of the Board of the Saudi Fiqh Association. Member of the Council of Senior Scholars from 1432 AH to 1438 AH. Professor in the Department of Fiqh at the College of Sharia, Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University. Advisor and member of several organizations and committees. --- His Academic Contributions: He has written several books, including: As-Salsabeel fi Sharh Ad-Daleel Fiqh of Contemporary Financial Transactions Rulings on Commercial Papers in Islamic Fiqh Using Astronomical Calculations to Determine the Lunar Months And more The Sheikh has also participated widely in media, including radio, satellite TV channels, newspapers, and magazines, and has given many lectures. ----------------------------- Main criticism I’ve seen against him: There is an old clip where he was asked about Sayyid Qutb. In it, he said that Sayyid Qutb was an Adeeb, and like others, had both correct views and mistakes. He explained that what is correct from him should be accepted and what is mistaken should be left. He also compared this to Imam An-Nawawi, mentioning that even Imam An-Nawawi had some errors, including in matters related to creed. Defense: I believe the Sheikh may not have been familiar with the mistakes of Sayyid Qutb at the time he made those comments. Sheikh Abu Bakar Al-Hammadi hafidhahullah said: "More astonishing is that, even recently, some scholars outside of these lands have remained unaware of the fitnah of Sayyid Quṭb and the grave deviations he introduced into Islam. Others remain ignorant of the misguidance and deviation of figures like Az-Zindānī or the errors of the Tablīghī Jamāʿah, among others."
