The Fast That Truly Benefits a Person Ibn Al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) said in his book Al-Wābil As-Ṣayyib: A true fasting person is the one: 1. Whose body parts stay away from sins. 2. His tongue avoids lying, obscene speech, and false statements. 3. His stomach refrains from food and drink, and 4. His private parts refrain from immoral behaviour. If he speaks, he does not say anything that would harm his fast. If he acts, he does not do anything that would spoil it. Instead, all his speech becomes beneficial and good, and his actions are righteous. This is like the pleasant smell noticed by anyone who sits with a person carrying musk. In the same way, whoever sits with a fasting person benefits from being with him and feels safe from lies, wrongdoing, immorality, and injustice. This is the true fasting that is prescribed—not just staying away from food and drink. In an authentic hadith, the Prophet said: “Whoever does not leave false speech, acting upon it, and ignorant behavior, then Allah has no need for him to leave his food and drink.” Another hadith says: “Many people who fast gain nothing from their fast except hunger and thirst.” So real fasting is when the limbs stay away from sins and the stomach stays away from food and drink. Just as eating and drinking break the fast and spoil it, sins also cut away its reward and ruin its benefit, making the person like someone who did not fast at all. #فوائد_رمضانية #Ramadan@masjidsahabah
