The Prophet ﷺ said:

((لَقَدْ حَجَّرْتَ وَاسِعًا))
“You have constricted something expansive.” [Reported by Al-Bukhāri (6010)]
This means that the mercy of Allāh is vast—how could it be limited to just you or just Muḥammad ﷺ?
The point here is that this was a man from the Bedouins, yet the Prophet ﷺ treated him with kindness. This moved him so much that he began to supplicate for the Prophet ﷺ specifically, rather than for anyone else.
The same happened with others. For example, Mu‘āwiyah ibn Al-Ḥakam As-Sulami (may Allāh be pleased with him), once spoke during prayer without knowing it was forbidden. The Prophet ﷺ taught him gently and kindly, saying:
((إِنَّ هَذِهِ الصَّلَاةَ لَا يَصْلُحُ فِيهَا شَيْءٌ مِنْ كَلَامِ النَّاسِ، إِنَّمَا هُوَ التَّسْبِيحُ وَالتَّكْبِيرُ وَقِرَاءَةُ الْقُرْآنِ))
"In this prayer, nothing of people’s talk is appropriate; it is only for glorifying Allāh, saying ‘Allāhu Akbar,’ and reciting the Qur'ān."
Because of this kind and wise teaching, Mu‘āwiyah praised the Prophet ﷺ, saying:
((بِأَبِي هُوَ وَأُمِّي، مَا رَأَيْتُ مُعَلَّمًا قَبْلَهُ وَلَا بَعْدَهُ أَحْسَنَ تَعْلِيمًا مِنْهُ، فَوَاللهِ مَا كَهَرَنِي وَلَا ضَرَبَنِي وَلَا شَتَمَنِي، إنما قال كذا وكذا))
"By my father and mother, I have never seen a teacher before him or after him who taught better than him. By Allāh, he never got angry with me, hit me, or insulted me. He only said such and such." [Reported by Muslim]
So, you, as a caller to Islam, will face ignorant people, especially those from remote villages. You will meet many who don’t know, or those who are impatient and want to rush the prayer, or who are not accustomed to sitting in the masjid. You will also encounter those who are confused about the teachings of Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jama‘ah because of misunderstandings or false information, and you may meet people who are stubborn.
When dealing with such people, you need to advise them gently, be patient, and show kindness. Sometimes all they have received is confusion and distortion, so explain things clearly and patiently. Many of them may actually have good intentions and love the Deen, but their understanding has been distorted.
Similarly, you may find people who are hasty in prayer or masjid attendance, while you have lessons and proper prayer routines. They may need teaching, guidance, patience, and consideration of their situation.
In short, a student of knowledge should be patient, wise, and gentle, calling to Allāh through words and actions. Allāh says:
"O you who believe! Why do you say what you do not do? It is most hateful in the sight of Allāh that you say what you do not do." [Surah Aṣ-Ṣaff: 2–3]
Encourage people to follow the Sunnah, explain its virtues and the goodness and salvation it contains, and act upon it yourself. If you do this, you will see good results, In-shā-Allāh.
There are issues a caller to Islam will face, and each situation requires its own approach. When a person goes to a place and sees things that need to be corrected, he should do his best to rectify them and ask Allāh for guidance and help. Anyone who has experienced calling to Islam, after Allāh’s help and guidance, will understand many of these matters.
Know that the time you spend in calling to Allāh may benefit many people without you even realising it. Some may come to love the Sunnah and hold firmly to it because of you. Many times, a person may visit a village for only a short while, yet when he leaves, the men and women there may cry at his departure, continue to remember him with goodness, pray for him, visit him, and stay in touch.
All of this happens because of the good impact Allāh allows him to have during his time there, even if it is brief.
