Remember, you are only a means—there may be others in that town more sincere or stronger in religion than you. 9. Moving Past Trials Do not remain stuck in past conflicts. Trials pass. Once something becomes clear, move forward. 10. Preparation and Knowledge Those who speak to the public should prepare well. If you speak without strong evidence, people may lose trust in you. Organise your topic, explain clearly, refer to reliable scholars, and speak calmly. Only speak about what you truly understand. Do not speak about uncertain matters. 11. Teaching According to People’s Level Lessons should match the level of the audience. People like what they understand; difficult matters may confuse them. Detailed explanations are often more beneficial than brief summaries. Teaching tafsir, such as Ibn Kathir, is very good. You could begin with Juz ‘Amma and explain it clearly with beneficial reminders. 12. Advice and Warning Include advice in your lessons. Warn against sins and innovations. Encourage love for the Sunnah and knowledge. The religion is complete and balanced. 13. Completing Books If someone goes out for a month, for example, he should try to complete the lessons he started. Finishing a book makes students happy (such as Kitab At-Tawhid or Al-Wasitiyyah). Completing books brings blessing; stopping halfway makes things difficult for both teacher and student. 14. Consistency The more capable and steady a student is, the more benefit he brings. Centres of knowledge value serious students. Wherever a sincere and dedicated student goes, there is goodness. 15. Teaching Beginners Teach beginners short hadiths. Do not overwhelm them with long narrations that may bore or embarrass them. * “The Forty Hadith of An-Nawawi” is excellent for beginners and very beneficial. * In hadith terminology, “Al-Bayquniyyah” is good and easy. A higher-level book is “Al-Mūqidhah” by Adh-Dhahabi. 16. Beautiful Recitation Proper recitation with a beautiful voice is a powerful form of da‘wah.
