𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗮 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀 (45)

Why the Wealthy Should Give Qardh Hasanah Instead of Letting Money Sit in Banks عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ الله ﷺ يَقُولُ : ((مَنْ أَنْظَرَ مُعْسِرًا فَلَهُ بِكُلِّ يَوْمٍ مِثْلُهُ صَدَقَةٌ)). قَالَ : ثُمَّ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ: ((مَنْ أَنْظَرَ مُعْسِرًا فَلَهُ بِكُلِّ يَوْمٍ مِثْلَيْهِ صَدَقَةٌ)). قُلْتُ : سَمِعْتُكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ تَقُولُ : ((مَنْ أَنْظَرَ مُعْسِرًا فَلَهُ بِكُلِّ يَوْمٍ مِثْلُهُ صَدَقَةٌ))، ثُمَّ سَمِعْتُكَ تَقُولُ : ((مَنْ أَنْظَرَ مُعْسِرًا فَلَهُ بِكُلِّ يَوْمٍ مِثْلَيْهِ صَدَقَةٌ)). قَالَ لَهُ: ((بِكُلِّ يَوْمٍ صَدَقَةٌ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَحِلَّ الدَّيْنُ، فَإِذَا حَلَّ الدَّيْنُ فَأَنْظَرَهُ فَلَهُ بِكُلِّ يَوْمٍ مِثْلَيْهِ صَدَقَةٌ)). Sulayman ibn Buraydah narrated from his father (Buraydah ibn Al-Huṣayb Al-Aslami), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ say: “Whoever gives more time to a person in difficulty, for each day he will receive its equal as charity.” He said: Then I heard him say: “Whoever gives more time to a person in difficulty will receive for each day double of it as charity.” I said: O Messenger of Allāh, I heard you say, “Whoever gives more time to a person in difficulty will receive for each day its equal as charity,” and then I heard you say, “He will receive for each day double of it as charity.” He replied: “For each day it is counted as charity before the debt becomes due. But once the debt becomes due and he still gives him more time, then for each day he will receive double of it as charity.” [Narrated by Ahmad in his Musnad (23046). Its chain of narration is authentic according to the conditions of Muslim (Shu’aib Al-Arnā'ūṭ)]. As-San‘ani (may Allāh have mercy on him) explained: “When the debt becomes due” — meaning its set time has arrived — “and he gives him more time, then for every day he will receive double the amount of it as charity,” meaning two times the value of the debt. This is because he gave him extra time after repayment had become obligatory. This shows the great virtue of giving more time to a debtor, on the condition that the debtor is truly unable to pay.” [At-Tanwīr 10/152]
