The Largest Book Authored Kitāb Al-Funūn by Abū Al-Wafāʾ ʿAlī ibn ʿAqīl ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAqīl al-Ḥanbalī Al-Ḥāfidh Adh-Dhahabī said in his Tārikh: “Nothing larger than this book has ever been compiled in the world. Someone who saw a certain volume of it after the four-hundredth [volume] related this to me.” Abū Ḥafṣ ʿUmar ibn ʿAlī Al-Quzwīnī in Baghdad said: “I heard some of our scholars say that it consists of eight hundred volumes.” Ibn Rajab said: “It is an exceedingly large book, containing many great and valuable benefits in exhortation, Qurʾānic exegesis, jurisprudence, the two foundational sciences, grammar, language, poetry, history, and anecdotes.
