An Unusual Parallel in the Births and Deaths of Three Scholars Shaykh Al-Islām Ibn Ḥajar Al-ʿAsqalānī mentioned in his Muʿjam that the three imams—Al-ʿIrāqī, Al-Bulqīnī, and Ibn Al-Mulaqqin—were the marvel of their age at the turn of the century: the first distinguished in knowledge of ḥadīth and its disciplines; the second remarkable for the breadth of his mastery of the Shāfiʿī school; and the third notable for the abundance of his writings. He said: Among the curiosities is that each of the three was born one year before the next and died one year before him. The first of them was Ibn Al-Mulaqqin, then Al-Bulqīnī, then Al-ʿIrāqī.
