A Wise Woman Who Utilised Polygyny to Warn Against Shirk and Call to Tawheed Some time ago, two Moroccan women were arguing—one was a monotheist and the other a polytheist. They were sitting together in the Prophet’s Mosque. The monotheist said to the polytheist: “It is not proper for you to seek help from a prophet or a righteous person; you should seek help from Allāh alone.” The polytheist did not accept this, thinking that not seeking assistance from prophets or righteous people diminishes their status, since their rank with Allāh is high. The monotheist then asked: “Would you accept if your husband married another woman?” The polytheist replied: “No, absolutely not.” The monotheist asked: “Isn’t that permissible in Islam?” She replied: “Yes, but I would not be pleased, because it would mean I do not satisfy him fully or meet his desires.” The monotheist then asked: “Then how can you be pleased with Allāh, the Lord of the Worlds, with what you would not be pleased with for yourself? Whoever calls upon others besides Allāh will not find sufficiency except in Allāh.” The polytheist reflected on the monotheist’s words, understood, and admitted her error. ولله المثل الأعلى! And Allāh’s example is the highest.
