An apology from a good person is like an immediate payment, while an apology from a bad person is like paying a debt late
A good person, if they upset a friend, doesn't wait for the hurt to grow. They don't let the heart break or the wound get infected. Instead, they hurry to say sorry and fix the friendship before the pain gets worse.
Abu Bakr As-Siddiq (may Allฤh be pleased with him) once said:
"There was a problem between me and Umar ibn al-Khattab.So I went to him quickly and asked him to forgive me." [Reported by Al-Bukhari]
So As-Siddiqโthe best person after the prophetsโdidn't wait to be blamed. He didn't hesitate. He went to his friend and asked for forgiveness, as if he was afraid their friendship would be damaged.
This shows great character, humility, and strong faith. A good person can't sleep if their friend's heart is hurting, even if they were the one who made the mistake.
A bad person is the opposite. They avoid apologising. They delay until the wound is rotten and the friendship is dead. For them, an apology is like a heavy debtโthey only pay when it's too late.
Our teacher โAbdulKarim Al-Imad (may Allฤh preserve him) said:
"Apologise to your brother quickly...put out the fire while it's still small."
He also said wisely:
"An ember under the ashes...and what puts out that ember is delay."
So don't delay words that can heal. Don't put off an apologyโit might find a heart that is no longer listening.
Give friendship its respect, before a moment of pride steals it away.
