And praise be to Allāh, there are many, many cases where the father is a scholar, the son is a scholar, the grandson is a scholar, and the descendant through the daughter is a scholar — if Allāh opens, He opens.
But the point is that there must be care and good care, and kindness begets kindness and goodness begets goodness. And do to people that which you love to be done to you.
We also advise the sons to benefit from their fathers, and we advise the students to benefit from the shaykhs: begin from where your father ended, and begin from where your shaykh ended. As for remaining wanting to begin from where your father began and where your shaykh began, you will not reach the rank of your father or the rank of your shaykh until your age is above fifty. So why do we not benefit from these experiences that we observe? We observe our fathers — what they bear, what they undertake, what they are patient with, what they toil, and what they exert — we ask Allāh to make us like them in patience, deliberation, tranquility, and eagerness for good. And likewise we see from our shaykhs their eagerness for knowledge and eagerness for good — why do we begin from the very beginning of what they began with? One day they become lazy, one day they become tired, one day this and one day that — benefit from him and move on; benefit from his advice. May Allāh bless everyone.
We ask Allah to rectify us as fathers and mothers and shaykhs, and we ask Allah to rectify our children, our grandchildren, our descendants through daughters, our students, and all the Muslims. Indeed, He is capable of that. So praise be to Allāh, Lord of the worlds.
