“Who is the true friend?”

Our Shaykh, the Faqih of the time, Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allāh have mercy on him), said: "If you find that your friends guide you toward good, assist you in it, remind you when you forget, and teach you when you are unaware, then hold firmly to them. But if you find among your friends someone who is neglectful toward you, indifferent to whether you perish or succeed, and perhaps even seeks your ruin, beware of him, for he is like pure poison—may Allāh protect us. Do not approach such people; rather, flee from them as you would flee from a lion." [Sharh Riyadh As-Salihin, 19/4]
