Ibn Al-Qayyim rahimahullah writes in Zaad Al-Ma'aad:
Chapter: The Prophet's ﷺ Guidance on Treating and Extinguishing Fires
It is narrated from ʿAmr ibn Shuʿayb, from his father, from his grandfather, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
((إذا رأيتم الحريق فكبروا فإن التكبير يطفئه))
"When you see a fire, say 'Allahu Akbar' (Allah is the Greatest), for saying the takbir extinguishes it." ¹
Since fire is caused by fire itself, and fire is the substance from which Shayṭān was created, and because fire can cause widespread destruction that suits Shayṭān's nature and actions, Shayṭān helps to spread it and carries it out.
By its nature, fire seeks to rise upward and cause destruction. These two qualities—seeking high status on the earth and spreading corruption—are also the way of Shayṭān. They are what he calls people to, and through them he destroys the children of Adam.
Both fire and Shayṭān seek to rise high on the earth and spread corruption. But the greatness and majesty of Allah, the Mighty and Exalted, overpower Shayṭān and his actions.
For this reason, declaring Allah's greatness by saying "Allahu Akbar" has an effect in putting out a fire. Nothing can stand against the greatness and majesty of Allah. So when a Muslim glorifies his Lord by saying the takbir, it has an effect in calming the fire and weakening Shayṭān, from whose substance the fire came. As a result, the fire is extinguished.
We and others have experienced this and found it to be true.
And Allah knows best.
