I am ruined." Allฤh's Messenger (๏ทบ) asked what was the matter with him. He replied "I had sexual intercourse with my wife while I was fasting." Allฤh's Messenger (๏ทบ) asked him, "Can you afford to free a slave?" He replied in the negative. Allฤh's Messenger (๏ทบ) asked him, "Can you fast for two successive months?" He replied in the negative. The Prophet (๏ทบ) asked him, "Can you afford to feed sixty poor persons?" He replied in the negative. The Prophet (๏ทบ) kept silent and while we were in that state, a big basket full of dates was brought to the Prophet (๏ทบ). He asked, "Where is the questioner?" He replied, "I (am here)." The Prophet (๏ทบ) said (to him), "Take this (basket of dates) and give it in charity." The man said, "Should I give it to a person poorer than I? By Allฤh; there is no family between its (i.e. Madina's) two mountains who are poorer than I." The Prophet (๏ทบ) smiled till his premolar teeth became visible and then said, 'Feed your family with it." [Reported by Bukhari & Muslim] Ten Derived Benefits: 1โƒฃ. Hadiths with Nicknames: Scholars often assign nicknames to certain hadiths for ease of reference. Examples include: -> Hadith Jibreel โ€“ Refers to when Jibreel appeared in human form to teach the Companions about Islam. -> Hadith Hirqal โ€“ Named after Heraclius, who died in disbelief, and relates to the ten questions he posed to Abu Sufyan. -> Hadith Al-Jassฤsah โ€“ Refers to the narration of Tameem ibn Aws. This particular hadith is known as ุญุฏูŠุซ ุงู„ู…ุฌุงู…ุน ููŠ ู†ู‡ุงุฑ ุฑู…ุถุงู† (The Hadith of the man who had intercourse during the day in Ramaแธhฤn). It has been extensively studied, with scholars such as AbdulAzeez ibn Ahmad Al-Hakkari Ash-Shafi'ee and Abdurraheem ibn Hussein Al-Iraqi deriving 1,000 benefits from it. 2โƒฃ. Expressions of Regret: "I am ruined" (ู‡ู„ูƒุชู) & "I am burnt" (ุงุญุชุฑู‚ุชู): - These phrases reflect intense guilt and fear of sin, as sins lead to destruction. - Allฤh states: {ูุฃู‡ู„ูƒู†ุงู‡ู… ุจุฐู†ูˆุจู‡ู…} ("We destroyed them due to their sins"). - A key condition of repentance is sincere remorse for oneโ€™s wrongdoing. Note: A narration outside Sahih Al-Bukhari and Muslim states ุฃู‡ู„ูƒุชู (I have ruined someone else), but scholars such as Al-Hakim and Al-Bayhaqi have classified it as weak. 3โƒฃ. Ignorance of the Consequences Does Not Remove Liability: - The man was aware that he had sinned but did not know the legal implications (kaffฤrah). - However, his ignorance of the kaffฤrah did not exempt him from fulfilling it. Note: Fondling while fasting is permissible if one can control their desires. - A'ishah reported that "The Messenger of Allah ๏ทบ would kiss and fondle while fasting, but he had the most control over his desires."
