🌕 Ramaḍhān Benefits (13)

The best supplication to begin Qiyām Al-Layl (the night prayer) Ibn ’Abbās (may Allāh be pleased with him) states that when the Prophet ﷺ would stand for the night prayer, he would say: اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ، أَنْتَ نُورُ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَمَنْ فِيهِنَّ، وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ، أَنْتَ قَيِّمُ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَمَنْ فِيهِنَّ، وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ، أَنْتَ الْحَقُّ، وَوَعْدُكَ حَقٌّ، وَقَوْلُكَ حَقٌّ، وَلِقَاؤُكَ حَقٌّ، وَالْجَنَّةُ حَقٌّ، وَالنَّارُ حَقٌّ، وَالسَّاعَةُ حَقٌّ، وَالنَّبِيُّونَ حَقٌّ، وَمُحَمَّدٌ حَقٌّ، اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ، وَعَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْتُ، وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ، وَإِلَيْكَ أَنَبْتُ، وَبِكَ خَاصَمْتُ، وَإِلَيْكَ حَاكَمْتُ، فَاغْفِرْ لِي مَا قَدَّمْتُ وَمَا أَخَّرْتُ، وَمَا أَسْرَرْتُ وَمَا أَعْلَنْتُ، أَنْتَ الْمُقَدِّمُ وَأَنْتَ الْمُؤَخِّرُ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ. "O Allāh, to You belongs all praise. You are the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all that is in them. To You belongs all praise. You are the Controller of the heavens and the earth and all that is in them. To You belongs all praise. You are the Truth, Your promise is true, Your speech is true, Your meeting is true, Paradise is true, Hellfire is true, the Hour is true, the Prophets are true, and Muhammad is true. O Allāh, to You I submit, in You I believe, upon You I rely, to You I turn in repentance, by You I argue, and to You I refer for judgment. So forgive me for what I have done and what I will do, what I have concealed and what I have made public. You are the One who brings forward, and You are the One who delays. There is none worthy of worship except You." [Reported by Bukhāri and Muslim] Sheikh Yahya ḥafidhahullāh said: "This supplication is the most authentic, comprehensive, and beautiful of those reported for Qiyam al-Layl—more authentic than the hadith of ’Ā'ishah in Sahih Muslim."
