BENEFIT 4 - Conferences Are Not a Waste of Time!
The Rabbāniyyūn prioritise regular classes where essential Islamic texts are taught and memorised. This is the primary means by which they continue to cultivate and produce students of knowledge. However, they do not neglect the importance of delivering lectures and hosting relevant conferences from time to time.
During our journey, one of the teachers expressed concern regarding certain students who excessively prioritise regular classes to the extent that they neglect attending conferences, preferring instead to listen to them from home.
Personally, if these were my students or peers, I would be deeply disappointed. If they persisted in this behaviour after being advised, I might even begin to hold bad thoughts of them.
As an advice to these students, I would like to highlight ten key benefits of attending conferences, in addition to the fact that تكثير سواد أهل السنة (increasing the number of Ahlus-Sunnah) is a religious objective:
1⃣. Reminders have a profound impact on one’s Ēmān, perhaps even more than attending regular classes.
Al-’Irbāḍh ibn Sāriyah (may Allāh be pleased with him) said:
(( وَعَظَنَا رَسُولُ الله ﷺ يَوْمًا بَعْدَ صَلاَةِ الْغَدَاةِ مَوْعِظَةً بَلِيغَةً ذَرَفَتْ مِنْهَا الْعُيُونُ وَوَجِلَتْ مِنْهَا الْقُلُوبُ))
"The Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) delivered a moving speech to us, causing our eyes to shed tears and our hearts to tremble."
2⃣. The Prophet ﷺ regularly reminded his Companions, and they greatly valued these reminders.
Ḥandhalah Al-Usaydī (may Allāh be pleased with him) said:
"When we are in the presence of the Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ), he reminds us of Hellfire and Paradise as if we can see them with our own eyes. However, when we leave his company and return to our families, children, and daily affairs, much of what we had remembered fades from our minds." [Muslim 2750]
3⃣. Conferences bring together people from diverse backgrounds, providing an opportunity to reconnect with long-lost friends and form new bonds.
Many have even found their spouses through such gatherings—though this should not be one’s primary intention!

4⃣. The soul can easily become bored from constant repetition and hearing the same teacher’s voice.
Conferences, on the other hand, offer a refreshing change from regular classes, preventing mental fatigue and reinvigorating one’s enthusiasm for seeking knowledge.
One of the most effective ways to be consistent in remembrance of Allāh is to shift between different positions—standing, sitting, and lying down, as Allāh said:
﴿ٱلَّذِینَ یَذۡكُرُونَ ٱللهَ قِیَـٰمࣰا وَقُعُودࣰا وَعَلَىٰ جُنُوبِهِمۡ﴾ [Surah Āli-ʿImrān: 191]
Similarly, transitioning from one act of worship to another is also a good way to overcome boredom, as understood from the saying of Allāh:
﴿فَإِذَا فَرَغۡتَ فَٱنصَبۡ﴾
[Surah Ash-Sharḥ: 7]
5⃣. Seeing large crowds of people adhering to the Sunnah in their dress, speech, and interactions fosters a sense of belonging and reassurance.
This removes feelings of isolation and strengthens one’s resolve, knowing that they are not alone in treading this path.
6⃣. A student of knowledge is always in search of gems and benefits.
Conferences often provide a broader range of beneficial gems than a regular class.

7⃣. The lectures delivered at conferences are usually well presented.
This allows attendees to not only absorb the content but also learn effective methods of presentation and public speaking.
8⃣. Interacting with students from other regions serves as a motivation to strive harder when regular classes resume.
