Travel Expenses

Question: السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته My company sometimes requires me to travel to another town. If I take a first-class train, they reimburse me £240 for travel expenses. However, if I drive, they pay me 45p per mile, which amounts to £220. Would it be permissible for me to claim the first-class train fare but travel by car instead? I believe the company would not approve of this, but it would save them £20. Is this allowed? Sheikh Muḥammad Al-’Ansi ḥafidhahullāh: وعليكم السلام ورحمة الله وبركاته It is best for a Muslim to be transparent in their dealings without obscurity or deception, may Allāh bless you. If one is travelling by train, they should claim the train fare. If they are using their private car, they should claim the corresponding car expenses. They should be clear with their employer to avoid giving others a reason to criticise Muslims or Islam. Moreover, even if no criticism arises, financial dealings must be conducted with honesty and integrity, regardless of whether one is dealing with disbelievers or people of any background. May Allāh bless you.
