Question: When sending money abroad on these apps, they give you points which can then be used as money. Like tesco clubcard, they give you points to be used as money. Do those things fall under ribaa? Answered by Abu Atiyyah ḥafidhahullāh: No, these reward points don’t fall under ribā. They are like discounts or cashback, given as a reward for using the service, not as interest on a loan. Also, these points are not actually money because you can’t use them as cash or pay anyone with them for any type of service. They can only be used in their respective shops or platforms. However, if the system involves paying extra due to a delay in repayment, then it could be ribā. But in general, reward points from money transfer apps or stores like Tesco Clubcard are allowed.
