من تزوج فقد ركب البحر

Imam Sufyan Ath-Thawri, may Allāh have mercy on him, said: "Whoever marries has embarked upon the sea." [Tadhkirat As-Sāmi’, p. 36] He, may Allāh have mercy on him, compared marriage to the sea because, just like the sea, it does not remain constant; one must endure all the hardships it brings.
