BENEFIT: The Adverse Impact of Greek Philosophy on Islamic Creed

Sheikh ’Uthaymīn rahimahullah states: "One of the greatest causes of Ta'teel (negation of Allāh's Attributes) that befell this Ummah was due to the Greek books which were Arabised by Al-Ma'mūn. For this reason, Sheikh Al-Islam said: "I do not think that Allāh would forgive Al-Ma'mūn for the corruption in creed that he brought upon the Ummah." The true calamity lay in the works he presented from Greek philosophy, to the extent that it was said he would weigh a book in gold—placing gold on one side of the scale and the book on the other—then hand its author the equivalent weight in gold, out of his eagerness to translate Greek texts. However, these works brought great harm to the Ummah.
