The claim that the masjid is small cannot be used as a justification for keeping the business open with the intention of attending the second Jumuʿah congregation. The business should cease operations at a designated time, and everyone involved should proceed to the first Jumuʿah prayer. This ensures compliance with the divine command and avoidance of doubtful actions.
How can one argue against this when when some scholars have obligated a person, who is in proximity to two masjids and intends to attend the second one where Jumuʿah is established later than the first, to still cease trade upon hearing the first adhān?
Al-Buhūtī stated:
"It is impermissible to engage in trade at the time when proceeding to Jumuʿah becomes obligatory. (If there are two or more congregational mosques in a town), and Jumuʿah is validly established in both due to the size of the town or similar reasons, (then if the adhān is called in one of them), it is impermissible to engage in trade even before the adhān of (the second mosque). This was affirmed in Al-Fuṣūl due to the generality of the āyah."
