Lying To Evade Tax

A questioner asks: A man is responsible for issuing invoices for goods, and the business owner instructs him to write a price lower than the original price on the invoices and to omit some goods from the invoices in order to evade taxes in the country. Is his action permissible, and is his wage lawful? Sheikh ’Adān Al-Maṣqari ḥafidhahullāh: He should not lie; it is not permissible for him to do so...Taxes are fundamentally prohibited, and they are المكوس which is forbidden by unanimous scholarly agreement. You may, however, employ loopholes to manage tax obligations without lying. Evading taxes in such manner, as mentioned, is permissible as long as it is done without lying, and the income is lawful, in-shā-Allāh. Pricing items lower than their actual price (is fine), because the smaller amount is included within the larger amount.
