Abū Mālik Muḥammad Shuqrāh, a distinguished student of Sheikh Albāni (raḥimahullāh), aimed to reform the Sururis (a deviated group that falsely ascribes itself to Salafiyyah) by engaging with and accompanying them. However, despite his good intentions, high aspirations, and substantial knowledge, he was not immune to their misguidance.
While his approach did bring some degree of change, it was ultimately negative. Instead of reforming them, it was he who was influenced by them, leading him away from the straight path.
This highlights the accuracy in the Salaf’s warning:
«لا تجالسوا أهل الأهواء، ولا تجادلوهم؛ فإني لا آمن أن يغمروكم في ضلالتهم، ويلبسوا عليكم ما كنتم تعرفون»
"Do not sit with those who follow their desires, nor engage in debate with them; for I fear they will engulf you in their misguidance and confuse you regarding what you already know."
Though it's possible to cite various historical examples, the contemporary relevance of Muḥammad Shuqrah, makes his case especially significant.
This example serves as a REMINDER for those who want Salafees to "𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲" and "𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀" with innovators, just as it serves as a WARNING against diverting from the Salafi principles of shunning, boycotting and warning against innovators.
NOTE: Refuting someone who has a fanbase among every innovated group can lead to backlash, so clarify the truth and remain patient and steadfast O Salafi, as the example of his fanbase
"مثل الفروج يسمع الديكة تصيح فيصيح"
"is like that of a chick that hears the roosters crow and crows along."
﴿لَن یَضُرُّوكُمۡ إِلَّاۤ أَذࣰى﴾
"They will not harm you except for [some] annoyance." [Sūrah Āli-’Imrān: 111]
