A man once asked ’Umar ibn Qays about small pebbles from the masjid that a person might find in their clothes, shoes, or on their forehead. ’Umar replied, "Throw it away." The man said, "But they claim that these pebble criy out until they are returned to the masjid." ’Umar responded, "Let them cry out until their throats split!" The man asked, "Do they have throats?" ’Umar replied, "Didn't you say they claim that they cry? So where else would the cry come from?"
